The “AI” Blog

Being a technical writer, I don’t have much experience with entertaining writing, but I am certainly going to give it a go. This is the first of hopefully many posts about the world of Artificial Intelligence, as I see it. This brings us to section 1: motivation.

Motivation

I think most things qualify as art; writing certainly qualifies as art. My philosophy towards art has been that you don’t make art unless you’ve got something to say. With the emergence of AI into the mainstream, there is a lot of misguided, under-researched, misleading, or just factually inaccurate coverage of artificial intelligence and machine learning. My goal is to provide what I feel is a much-needed “inside” perspective on the development and advancement of AI as it progresses.

The Mission

As we all interact with AI/ML more and more, it will be important for people to understand these algorithms, understand more about how they work - and in turn about how computers work. This is not only to advance awareness for the sake of knowledge but to provide people much needed technical foundations to form philosophical stances on the regulation, ethics, and safety measures needed for these emerging systems. In a democracy, if we want effective policy, we need voters operating on high information. I expect we may be a whole generation away from a voter base that understands this technology well enough, but I know for a fact that we cannot afford to wait that long. I want to make educational content explaining the basics with the hopes of creating a backlog that I can reference in these posts.

Welcome to the AI Blog, I’m Jake Hargrove, stick around to keep up-to-date and informed about Artificial Intelligence.
